I have only in recent years started painting in oil paints. For the many years before this I used watercolours and acrylic paints.

I feel that the watercolours and acrylics set me in good stead in understanding how different paints have different principals.
But for a long time I was always under the impression that oils paints were difficult to use, very messy and expensive. Something I'm happy to say I was pleasantly proven wrong on, apart from them being expensive, that part is unfortunately spot on.
What sets oil paints above the others mediums for you?
For me when it comes to oils paints, its the silkiness and vibrancy of every brush stroke that I simply crave now. It's like magic for me, like a therapy guiding me through my day.
And the the buzz I get from knowing that the painting is going in the direction it should, is like the warm sunshine illuminating your room. It just gives me those happy feels. Who wouldn't want that?
What is your painting technique for oil paints?
With regards to how I use the oil paints. I tend to switch between intentional and precise marks to carefree and more fluid strokes. I love the combination of the two and how the carefree strokes put emphasise on the precise ones, bringing them to the forefront of painting and making them the main focus.
